Getting Started in Real Estate
In 1963, newlyweds Mike and Jan Bowman relocated from southern Illinois and Indiana to Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to a career in real estate, Mike worked in the engineering division for Bell Helicopter. In 1969, Mike decided to start a career in real estate and obtained his real estate license later becoming one of the top agents in Northeast Tarrant County.

Mike opened his first real estate office in Hurst on Bedford Euless Road with approximately 450 square feet of working space in 1971. His mission was to provide excellent and comprehensive services for both buyers and sellers and to assist realtors in building successful careers.


In 1975, friend Allen Tappe contacted Mike about a new real estate franchise that was sweeping the nation. The name of this franchise was CENTURY 21. Mike saw the advantages and opportunities of being affiliated with a national franchise, which could give him national exposure yet keep his firm’s local identity. Mike was one of the first brokers to sign with CENTURY 21 in the Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma region with director Joseph Foster.

“Being affiliated with this great franchise was one of the best things that I ever did,” Mike said. ”It gave me the opportunity to grow in my role as a real estate broker and manager. It also gave our agents the advantage of meeting and working with other CENTURY 21 agents around the country. This started a huge relocation network for agents to send their buyers and sellers to other agents across the nation. This immediately brought a higher level of service for both buyers and sellers.”

Company Growth
CENTURY 21 Mike Bowman, Inc. soon outgrew its office space and moved to Hurst on Norwood Drive in 1976 with approximately 2,500 square feet. In 1980, the company relocated across the street to an office of approximately 4,500 square feet.

In 1983, Mike moved again to a larger space to accommodate his growing team of agents. The office relocated to a building on Westpark Way in Euless with approximately, 12,000 square feet. In 2000, the company expanded and opened a relocation center in the heart of the architecturally renowned Southlake Town Square.

With continued growth and more than 200 real estate professionals, the company built a new 24,000 square foot office in Grapevine, Texas right off Highway 121. Centrally located in the DFW metroplex, the office shares space with Bank of America Mortgage, Russell D. Mitchell Farmers Insurance, Waterford Financial Group, Capital Title Bill Shaddock Title Offices, and THE Inspection Company. With these businesses completely under one roof, this location provides a one-stop venue for real  estate related services saving buyers and sellers time and making the real estate process more efficient and smoother.

Award-Winning Departments and Innovative Tools
Mike believes that the personal relationship between the real estate agent and the buyer or seller is an integral part of any real estate transaction. With this philosophy, the company has garnered countless awards and recognition for its achievements. Our office has been recognized as the most productive in annual units closed per agent in the United States.

In 2006, our agents averaged 25 closed units annually; the national average according to the “National Association of Realtors” is eight.

Mike attributes these successes not only to the high caliber of real estate professionals in his office but also to the 28 highly skilled management team and staff members who bring a wealth of innovative ideas and marketing support to help agents work more efficiently.

Our award-winning relocation center relocates thousands of buyers and sellers in and out of the DFW metroplex each year. Vice President of Relocation Marion Pollard and her staff work closely with families to make the move as trouble free as possible.

“Our company has a long tradition of relocating families in and out of the Dallas/Fort Worth area," Mike said. "Our office has sold more homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area than any other office in the past 37 years.”

Our company is renowned for breaking new ground in developing technology that can further assist the buyer and seller. The technology department includes programmers and system administrators who develop web-based tools and in-house computer programs, as well as maintain the computer network.

In 1992, Mike was instrumental in developing iBroker, the first real estate software system with a seller feedback and leads management. This program includes the following components:

  • Front office (management of phones, outside agents, client database and reports)
  • Back office (production manager, transaction manager)
  • Accounting (accounts receivable, accounts payable, profit/loss, billing)
  • Customer service module (showing appointment scheduler, buyer feedback for sellers, comprehensive leads management that organizes and keeps track of thousands of leads, a database that the customer service representatives follow up on until buyers or sellers are ready for our services to be assigned to an agent, reports that keep the customer service department up-to-date on where the customer or client is during the real estate transaction and reports)
  • Relocation module (referral tracking, account management, automatic emails to companies, buyers and sellers, reports keeping management, agents, buyers and sellers informed on each real estate transaction in real time)
  • Agent access (contact management, agent tools, communication manager and reports)

The company launched its first website in 1999. Each month our website receives more than 1.7 million hits along with scheduling more than 3,100 showing appointments. This amount of activity has created thousands of buyers who are either moving within our local area or moving across the state, nation or around the world. This makes our company not only a real estate icon locally but also nationally and internationally.

"Technology is setting the pace in real estate and more and more people are looking to the internet for information," said Mike. National statistics show that 80 to 85 percent of buyers go online to look for real estate properties. "We wanted to assemble a web site that is easy to navigate and provide useful information. We are constantly enhancing our site to meet the needs of our users and hope that buyers and sellers will 'Discover the Difference' with our outstanding services, commitment to providing professionalism, honesty and integrity in doing business with our company.”

The customer service department helps us keep track of thousands of leads that are sent to us through the relocation department; company website; leads from Bank of America, Lending Tree, and other financial institutions; D.R. Horton, and other corporate affiliations. This part of our operation has helped us grow our business and provide better than expected services for agents, buyers, and sellers. This is also one of the reasons that our agents average 25 closed units annually.

Recognition
CENTURY 21 Mike Bowman, Inc. and its real estate professionals have received numerous awards, including the honor of the being the only brokerage in the history of the CENTURY 21 system to be named the No. 1 office in the world in closed units 15 times. In 1999, Real Trends magazine recognized the company as the No. 2 office in the nation in closed units out of more than 150,000 offices nationwide. Each year, Real Trends magazine has named our company one of the top 500 companies in the nation out of more than 150,000 companies nationwide. In 2006, Real Trends recognized us for having the highest per agent closed transactions annually in the nation.

About Mike
Mike has been actively involved in the community including serving as president of the Northeast Tarrant County Board of Realtors, member of the board of directors for several banks, and the first chairperson of the Adopt-A-School program for the Hurst-Euless-Bedford (HEB) Independent School District. He was invited and served on President Bush’s first presidential business advisory board.

Mike and his wife, Jan, have three children, Dave, Trisha, and Jeff, and seven grandchildren. Dave serves as Vice President of CENTURY 21 Mike Bowman, Inc.; Trisha Lynn is the founder of the All American Cowgirl Chicks® equestrian drill team in Weatherford Texas; and Jeff works in the insurance industry in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mike and Jan spend many of their weekends with the All American Cowgirl Chicks®, an organization founded by Trisha. This unique organization entertains crowds both nationally and internationally with their heart-stopping trick riding and drills. They are extremely proud of their grandchildren ranging in ages from 10 to 22. Several of their granddaughters ride with the All American Cowgirl Chicks, two are in college, and their grandson recently participated in the World Series baseball tournament in Colorado.
